Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

1. Who we are

Recetop is a cooking recipe website, published at www.recetop.com.ar. This policy describes what data the site collects, what for, and what you can ask about it.

For any question about this policy, or to exercise the rights in section 9, the channel is info@recetop.com.ar.

2. Information we collect

2.1. Browsing (without an account)

You can use Recetop without registering. In that case the only information collected, automatically, is browsing information:

  • Browser type and operating system
  • Pages visited and how long you stayed
  • Anonymised IP address: before it is stored, the last octet is discarded (for example, 181.22.125.191 is stored as 181.22.125.0), so that it identifies an approximate network and not a specific device. It is used to tell bots from people and to keep our own visits out of the statistics.
  • Traffic source (search, social media, direct access)

2.2. User account

If you sign in, you do so with your Google account. Google passes on your name, your email address and the URL of your profile picture, and that is what we store, together with the date you signed up and the date of your last visit. We never receive or store your password.

2.3. Content you write

Once signed in you can write your own content, and not all of it has the same destination:

  • Private — only your account sees it. The recipes you save and how you sort them, what you plan to cook, your lists and the free-text notes you write in those tools. We do not hand that over to anyone.
  • Public, with your name. Reviews and ratings (see section 2.4).
  • Public, without your name. Questions you leave on a recipe: the question is published, not who asked it.

About the public part: once published, it is visible to anyone on the internet. Search engines index it, and there are automated systems that crawl the web and may copy it. That is outside our control.

2.4. Reviews and ratings (public)

If you rate a recipe or leave a comment, your name and your comment are published on the recipe page and are visible to anyone. Your profile picture is only shown if you expressly allow it when submitting the review; if you do not, the rating still appears, but without a picture. Comments are moderated before publication. Your email address is not published.

3. The legal basis for processing your data

Each kind of data is processed on a different basis, and not all of them require your consent:

ProcessingBasis
Your account and the private content you keep in itNecessary to provide the service you asked for when you created the account. Without this data there is no account to show you
Publishing a review or a questionYour consent, which you give by submitting it. You can ask for it to be unpublished at any time
Usage statistics with an anonymised IPOur legitimate interest in knowing what is read and in telling people from bots. The data does not identify you
Measurement cookies (Google Analytics)Our legitimate interest in measuring use of the site (section 4)
Advertising cookiesYour consent, where applicable (section 6)

Where the basis is your consent, you can withdraw it whenever you want, and that does not affect what was done before you withdrew it.

4. Cookies and local storage

Recetop does not set cookies of its own. The ones that are set are third-party cookies and come in two kinds: measurement cookies (Google Analytics: _ga and _ga_PWD63WD519 — section 5) and advertising cookies (Google, section 6). Their lifetime is limited by your browser and by whoever sets them, not by us.

The measurement ones are set when you enter the site, except if you come from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom: there Google Analytics is not loaded at all and no measurement cookie is set (section 5). The advertising ones are set by Google when ads are shown; for those, you can turn off personalisation through the links in section 6.

Besides cookies, to keep your session open and remember your preferences we use the browser's local storage (localStorage). It is not a cookie, but it is also kept on your device; it is erased when you sign out or when you clear your browsing data from your browser settings. It is essential for the site to work while signed in: without it your session cannot be kept open.

5. Google Analytics

Recetop uses Google Analytics 4 to analyse site traffic. Google Analytics uses cookies to record how users interact with the site and, according to Google, does not store the full IP address. This information is used solely to improve the content and the user experience. Since 11 August 2026, Google Analytics is not loaded for visitors from countries that require prior consent (the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom): there, no measurement cookie is set at all, rather than setting one and asking for permission afterwards. You can read Google's Privacy Policy for further details.

6. Advertising

Recetop shows advertising through Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party provider, uses cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) and other identifiers to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Other advertising providers associated with Google may do the same.

If you turn off personalised advertising, you may still see ads, but they will not be based on your browsing history.

You can turn off Google's personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and opt out of third-party cookies from other providers at the Network Advertising Initiative.

7. Who we share your data with, and where it is stored

Recetop does not sell your data. The only third parties involved are providers that supply us with a service:

  • Google — sign-in (section 2.2), measurement (5) and advertising (6).
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) — where the site and the database are hosted.

Where your data is: the Recetop database is hosted on AWS servers in São Paulo, Brazil. If you are in the European Union, that means your data is transferred outside the European Economic Area. Google, for its part, processes data on its own infrastructure, which includes servers in the United States.

8. How long we keep your data

DataRetention period
Browsing statistics (anonymised IP, pages viewed)180 days, deleted automatically
Recently viewed recipes90 days, deleted automatically
Notification subscription90 days from last use
Measurement and advertising cookiesAccording to each cookie's lifetime (Google Analytics ones, ~2 years)
Your account data (name, email, picture)For as long as the account exists
The private content you keep in your accountFor as long as the account exists
Published reviews and ratingsUntil you ask for them to be taken down
Signed-in sessionDoes not expire on its own; it ends when you sign out

Data that depends on your account is not deleted on its own: it is kept for as long as the account exists, so that you find your recipes and your notes when you come back. If you want it deleted, see section 9.

9. Your rights

Regarding the data we hold about you, you can ask at any time for:

  • Access: a copy of everything we store associated with your account
  • Rectification: that we correct an incorrect piece of data
  • Erasure: that we delete your account and its content
  • Withdrawal of your consent, where that is the basis for processing (section 3)

Write to us at info@recetop.com.ar from the same email address you sign in with. Requests are handled manually. You do not need to explain why, and there is no charge.

What happens to your reviews when you close your account: they are not deleted, they are unlinked. The opinion about the recipe stays published, but your name and your picture stop being shown, and it is no longer associated with your account. If you want the text deleted as well, ask for it in the same message.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The version in force is always the one published on this page, with its update date at the top.

11. Supervisory authority

If you believe we have not handled a request of yours properly, you can complain to the supervisory authority that applies to you. The site is run from Argentina, where the competent one is the Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública. If you live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can go to the data protection authority of your own country.
