Strawberry Banana Smoothie

The strawberry and banana smoothie as always, only creamier: the banana gives it body without needing ice cream, and frozen strawberries chill and thicken it at the same time instead of watering it down with ice cubes.

With dairy milk or a plant drink, ready in 10 minutes.

The habit worth keeping: freeze ripe strawberries in season. They cost half as much, they are at their sweetest, and this works with them all year round.

Ingredients

Measurements
🍽 2 servings
  • 250 g strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 400 ml milk, well chilled (or a plant drink)
  • 1-2 tbsp sugar or honey, to taste
  • Ice (only if the strawberries are fresh)

Method

  1. 1

Wash the strawberries with the hulls on, remove them and halve the fruit. If they are frozen, they go in straight from the freezer: they chill and thicken at once.

  2. 2

Blend the strawberries with the banana in chunks and half the milk until smooth.

  3. 3

Add the rest of the milk and the sugar or honey, and blend a few seconds more. With fresh strawberries, add 3-4 ice cubes at this point.

  4. 4

Taste and adjust the sweetness — it depends entirely on how ripe the fruit is. Serve right away, well chilled.

Peak season depends on where you are — late spring to early summer in the northern hemisphere, spring in the southern one — but you will find them in the shops most of the year. They are at their best in cakes, shakes and homemade jam. Recetop tip: buy them in season, wash and dry them well, hull them and freeze them in zip bags; that way you always have a handful ready for smoothies.
